Tideborn Command: why your fleet keeps sinking (it's not the enemy)

July 5, 2026 · Marek Novák

My first campaign in Tideborn Command ended in the most embarrassing way possible: half my fleet ran out of fuel in the middle of nowhere, miles from any port. I hadn't lost a single battle. I'd just forgotten that ships need to get home.

The lesson stuck. Before you send anything anywhere, check the fuel range and the weather forecast. Storms don't just slow you down — they scatter formations and can strand slow ships. Plan routes with a return trip in mind, always.

Keep a reserve. I now hold back a small, fast squadron near my home port purely for rescue and resupply runs. It feels like wasted units until the day it saves your whole campaign.

Use the pause. This isn't a game that punishes you for stopping to think. I pause constantly, issue orders in batches, then let it play out. The scenarios that felt impossible became manageable once I stopped trying to micromanage in real time.

Get the logistics right and the actual sea battles are almost an afterthought. That inversion is what makes Tideborn Command more interesting than its screenshots let on.
